Hello, Greg Shenkman here to tell you about my visit to San Simeon, home of the famous Hearst Castle. This little quaint town has much more to offer than meets the eye.
San Simeon sits on the Central Coast of California there is a state park and beach. I visited Sebastians General Store which was built in the 1800’s and purchased a hearty sandwich that I took with me and had a little picnic on the grassy lawn overlooking the beach. I drove a few miles north along the scenic coastline to Piedras Blancas vista point. There were so many Elephant Seals just laying on the beach. You could hear them conversing with one another, (loud barks). Fighting amongst the bulls and all this was a gift from nature, no charge. From there I took a tour of the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse which was built in the late 1800’s. This hidden landmark is currently being restored by volunteers, you could really get a feeling of what it was like for the people that ran this light station. There are a few bunk houses on the property that you cannot see from the highway, Awesome!
I often travel for business and one of my favorite stops is Seattle, Washington. They are home to this bizarre building called the Experience Music Project an Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. The museum is dedicated to the history of popular music and science fiction, a very interesting combination. It’s a cool place to visit at least once, or if you’re outside to get some pics of the strange architecture.
Seattle has been known as Rain City because of the high percentage of annual rainfall, it’s no wonder great coffee and good bookstores thrive there. If you are in the area and want a great cup of coffee or espresso, you should stop by Monorail Espresso on Pike Street in downtown Seattle. Bring cash because they don’t take credit and parking is a pain, but its l worth it.
Hello, just wanted to let you know about the 60 Minutes TV interview with

I’m not what you would call and avid suba diver, more of a recreational novice really, but Cozumel is one of the greatest dive sites I have been too. The photo above was taken when it was really windy and not the greatest weather, but usually the ocean is calm and serene, allowing a clear view into the water below. Cozumel, Mexico is home to the Palancar Reef, which lies about a mile offshore of the southwest side of the island. The reef is full of canyons, tunnels, caves, and narrow crevices. The Palancar Reef was actually founded by Jacques Costeau in 1954. There are 40 different dive sites for the reef because is covers 3 1/2 miles, it’s quite an amazing experience. I need to move up from a novice so I, Greg Shenkman, can further explore the Palancar Reef on my next visit to Cozumel.
In 1938, France nationalized its five major railways forming the French national rail operator the SNCF. The railways combined cover a little more than 19,883 miles and employs over 179,000 people, boosting many regional economies.
The TGV, which is French for a very rapid train, is the SNCF’s fastest train and has set many records. The successful initial rail line led neighboring countries to build their own vast rail network which intertwine with the SNCF’s. For this reason, I , Greg Shenkman, when traveling in western Europe, prefer this train above all others.
During my last European vacation, I took the TGV from Paris, France, to Brussels, Belgium on the Eurostar network, which I then took to London, England. I recommend the train travel on the TGV to just about anyone, it is one of our great modern marvels. Greg Shenkman Image
I have decided to dedicate this blog to my past and future travel experiences. The family and friends of Greg Shenkman are always asking where I’ve been and what it’s like, so this is an easy way for me to share. I have been busy with work lately, so I’ll start by posting some of my previous travels and keep you updated on where I’m going next. There is so much to see on this earth and I love having my Greg Shenkman blog to share it with everyone. Feel free to comment on places I’ve been or places that you recommend I visit. Thanks for stopping by Greg Shenkman’s blog.
I know, talking to myself in the 3rd party is silly, but I am really excited about being in Hawaii! This place rocks. I started out on the island of Maui. Here is an amazing sunset pick!
